Welcome to inputmatters!
Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling® (TPRStorytelling®) is a method that was created by Blaine Ray. After using Total Physical Response (TPR) created by James Asher and having good results Blaine was still not completely satisfied. After researching he found Dr. Stephen D. Krashen’s research on Language Acquisition Theory and began experimenting and created TPRStorytelling®. TPRStorytelling® is a method that continues to evolve today based on input from classroom teachers using the method around the world.
TPRStorytelling® classrooms focus on providing varied, interesting, repetitive comprehensible input for students. This means that the learner understands the message in the target language which is then repeated enough times in an interesting and personalized way to allow acquisition to take place. The method includes 3 main steps - 1) Establishing Meaning 2) Story and 3) Literacy that help lead students to higher fluency levels than can be achieved in many more traditional classrooms.
To find out more read Blaine Ray’s book Fluency through TPRStorytelling® for a complete description of the method and the theory & research behind it. Available at http://www.blaineraytprs.com along with other TPRStorytelling® resources.
